The pro and con of this machine is the same for me: it’s strong enough to return even the densest rug to upright; however, it is also strong enough to grab upholstery and literally burn a hole in it. I love the value, but it’s definitely rudimentary – no bells and whistles. Also, mine just died after 2 years of use. the motor burned up. (I’ve avoided anything that could get snagged ever since that couch mishap so I don’t know why it burned up.) I will probably buy another one since it really does work great for a great price.

This device works so well it is almost unbelievable. It never slides or moves (under normal conditions), and allows for a safe, convenient way to stow when the GPS is not in use. This obviously results in greater theft protection. Obviously if you are considering this you realize it weighs 2 pounds, however that is what makes it so effective and stable. If you hate annoying suction cup mounts this is should be your only option!

I listened to the Opal Deception on a Coast-to-Coast drive with my daughter. We laughed across Arizona and I was hooked on Artemis Fowl. If you are an adult who likes Harry Potter there is a good chance you will like Artemis too. There is a natural tendency to compare them and to my taste Artemis is lighter and funnier. The prose is first-rate, the plots move right along and the characters are just a delight.

There’s a reason why Kathryn Stockett’s debut novel, The Help, is so popular: it’s an uplifting and moving story, packed with well-developed characters, and a plot that will engage most readers. Set in Mississippi in the early 1960s, The Help presents the polarized world of black maids and their employers. I found myself immersed in the lives of this cast of characters, rooting for some and booing others, as I turned pages as fast as I could to see how everything turns out. If there’s one debut novel you read this year, make it The Help.
