Now that I have finished reading my 50th book on my Kindle 2, which I have had since April 2009, I figured it was time to write a review.

The first thing I should say is that I was a bit skeptical at first about purchasing the Kindle 2, because I always liked the feel and heft of a hardcover book. As I get older, however, it gets harder and harder to carry and read a book while riding the NYC subway system (especially while standing). I was pretty confident that the Kindle 2 would solve this problem, and it has—so good in fact, that I have not picked up a hardcover or paperback book since the purchase of my Kindle 2.

The second thing I need to say is that I am generally a reader of non-fiction and tend towards the classic side of fiction—this has changed somewhat with the Kindle 2. I have been reading more contemporary fiction, much I would most likely not have read if I saw it in the bookstore.

Next, I have convinced several of my co-workers, all steady readers, to purchase the Kindle 2; they are all as happy with it as I am.

Now for the flaws. There have been times when the indexing system has become corrupted and I have had to restore the system to its factory settings (all of your purchases re-locate to the Archive). Overall, I love my Kindle 2. I take it with me to work every day and when I ride on the subway on the weekends. I have taken it on every vacation as well as read with it while on my couch at home. I find I read more with the Kindle 2 than otherwise, as the light greyish screen is very easy on the eyes.

I still maintain a library in my home of approximately 1000 books, but haven’t had the inclination to pick any of them up to rea
