Colfer, E. (2001). Artemis Fowl. New York: Hyperion Paperbacks for Children.
Artemis Fowl is not only to tale of the ingenious and villainous Artemis Fowl, but also the Story of Captain Holly Short, the first female to protect the magical people by joining LEPrechaun force.
Artemis, whose mother is unwell since his father was lost in the Arctic, searches with his friend and protector, Butler, to restore the Fowl fortune. This leads Artemis into trouble with the magical world when he takes Holly hostage. From there Artemis must match wits with LEP’s best agents and one of the magical community’s sneakiest criminals.
The book allows students to question their own cultural norms, as humans are called Mud People and their (our) practices are called into question.
The story includes subtle environmental messages. It also blurs the lines between genres, as it includes both sci-fi and fantasy elements. But most of all, this is a fun series for the young action-adventure lover to become addicted to.
Plus, Artemis is a Mac user, the clever boy.
Activities to do with the book:
This is a book is a great adventure story to help to get students immersed in a story. It lends itself to role-play since students can have fun being a villainous and powerful child genius.
Since some complain that the Artemis Fowl books are hard to visualize, students could create their own illustrations to help with this or create their own adventures for some of the supporting characters.
Favorite Quotes:
“How does one describe Artemis Fowl? Various psychiatrists have tried and failed. The main problem is Artemis’s own intelligence. He babboozles every test thrown at him. He has puzzled the greatest medical minds, and sent many of them gibbering to their own hospitals” (p. 1).
“The Mud People destroyed everything they came into contact with. Of course they didn’t live in the mud anymore. Not in this country, at least. Oh no. Big fancy dwellings with room for everything–rooms for sleep

I almost sent this item back because the sound was so uneven going back and forth between loud and soft for no reason. luckily I ran across a comment by someone who mentioned you had to use 5.1 or DTS in the sound setup to get it to work right. Sure enough, Doby sounds awful, but when I selected 5.1 the sound was perfect. After that I enjoyed a really great concert with some excellent cuts from Eric Clapton, Mark Knopfler-Dire Straits, Sting, Paul McCartney and many others. Brothers in Arms, Money for Nothing, Layla, Hey Jude and a great rendition of Kansas City with everyone joining in. If you think you might like this DVD you will, so buy it, just be sure you use 5.1 or DTS!

These are as advertised and nothing more. If you need them then worth buying if you can get a decent price on them.

A great book; sure to be a classic. For those that took issue that the characters; language; and other things weren’t southern, I take issue and suggest that YOU aren’t very southern. Every G’ma both black and white said LAW for LORD. I won’t reharsh the negative reviews but just say, read it; you’ll like it.

Wow, it’s been four years since it’s release and its still sold out! I called 3 town looking for one and decided to take my chances online, and oh boy am I glad I did! The overnight shipping rate was cheaper than sales tax in the store! I got my Wii today delivered to my door. I am more than pleased with the packaging and shipping rates, and the product was brand new in the box, very high quality! I am recommending this to anyone!

My husband and I are in our 60’s and were introduced to the WII at our daughter’s and son-in-law’s this past Christmas. We really had fun playing the games and working with WII-FIT, so that’s what I wanted for my 60th birthday in February. We’re still have a great time and amazed at how much exercise it can be.
I kept looking until I could find it at the price I wanted. Same for the WII Fit, but it took a little longer to find it at a retail price. Even with the free shipping, I had WII Fit in two days – amazing!

So it doesn’t have the best tools and the beater brush never stops but this does a great job at vacuuming. For the price I don’t think it can be beat. I vacuum a lot and was so impressed by its performance I bought another one for a friend.

Recently bought the Canon EOS Rebel T2i which does 30f/s 1080 HD video. I had bought at class 6 CENTON brand 16GB card(class 6) which turned out to be junk (DO NOT buy off the wall names like CENTON), It works fine in my point and shoot but can’t do 720p or 1080p, only VGA video. This card works great. I tried a bunch of videos (which are 330meg/min.) and the Transcend had NO PROBLEM keeping up. This is my 2nd Transcend and would buy another.

I Love this GPS mount!!! This was actually the third one I bought. The first was for me,the other two were for gifts for my sister and step dad. It stays put unlike the window or dash mounts and is easily transferable if you change vehicles. I would really recommend this to anyone with a GPS.
Listening Beyond the Echoes
I bought these covers and the identical Carters ones 18 months ago for our little girl. We use both all the time and wash and dry them the same. I have noticed that over time the Boppy covers have started to show their age. They are no longer as soft and many of the dots are worn away. You can actually see in many places where the fabric is so worn it is almost see-through. The Carters ones, however, look as good as they did when they were first purchased. And they were WAY cheaper than the Boppy ones. So save your money – buy the Carter cover – it’s cheaper and better quality!
